But just what are some of the most important, yet overlooked, safety tips when it comes to construction projects? Keep reading to find out!

Most injuries on construction sites occur when someone attempts to get on or off a piece of equipment. Whether you are using trucks, forklifts, cranes, or anything else that requires a person to operate, everyone involved needs to be especially careful. Make sure that anyone operating or even working near the equipment knows how to use it, and pay careful attention to issues that people have getting in to the vehicles. If someone is slipping or falling out, they may not be wearing the proper gloves, or there may be an issue with one of the machine’s foot holds.

Other accidents tend to happen when people crowd the work area. When someone is operating a machine and doing work, there shouldn’t be anyone else around who isn’t absolutely essential to the operation. Every additional person in the area only increase the chance of an injury, so clear out personnel who would be better served somewhere else.

Finally, another major source of injuries and accidents involves instable machines. You should regularly inspect all rigging attachments, safety latches, fittings, and other similar parts. The last thing you want is for a machine to fall over or drop a load when workers are in the area.

These are just a few of the most common safety issues that come up in heavy construction environments. Make sure safety is front and center on everyone’s mind and you should be able to avoid all of these problems.
