Crane Mats, Dragline Mats and the Fall Season

The fall season is fast approaching, and unfortunately, so are a whole host of new hazardous jobsite conditions that you and your crew need to be aware of. Throughout the fall season, there are a couple of things you can do prep your jobsite to prevent workplace injury and damage to your equipment.

Dragline MatsFallen leaves create slick conditions and can make driving machinery unsafe. Adding dragline mats to your jobsite is a simple solution that will help alleviate the danger that’s added by these fallen leaves. Our dragline mats, made of fresh cut hardwood, are easily swept and will help prevent skidding and loss of traction that can damage your equipment.

Dragline mats can also offer a good workspace for your crew. Dry, fallen leaves will catch fire more easily, so if there are sparks flying at your jobsite, it’s best to have the leaves out of the way – or at least beneath a mat where they can’t come in contact with hot embers.

Another thing to think about with the changing weather is the ground hardening as the temperature drops. As the ground shifts and stiffens, machinery can slip in inconsistent soil conditions and cause injury to crew or damage to equipment. The proper use of crane mats can prevent serious damage to your equipment and keep your crew safe and secure.

All of our dragline mats are constructed of fresh-cut hardwood timbers that are 8 inches thick, 4 feet wide, and 16 to 24 feet long. They have exposed bolts or cable for easy lifting. Our crane mats are constructed from fresh-cut oak timber or mixed hardwoods and range in length from 12 to 30 feet. We’re also happy to custom-build mats to any dimension you need, however, if you have unique requirements for your job site.
